Basic Life Support and safe use
of an AED
Course overview
Our half day Basic Life Support (BLS) and safe use of an AED course, covers all the subjects required by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for this to serve as an annual refresher course for those holding FAW or EFAW certificates. This course also provides a grounding in basic lifesaving skills.
The course covers the following topics:
Scene safety and assessment
Assessing a casualty responsiveness
Treating a casualty who is not responsive but breathing (recovery position)
Treating a casualty who is not responsive and not breathing (Resuscitation)
To understand the safety precautions when using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
To understand when to use an AED
To be able to use an AED
Who is this course for?
This course would be ideal for first aiders holding an FAW or EFAW certificate requiring an annual refresher or for anyone wanting an understanding of lifesaving skills.
This course does not meet the HSE’s requirements for a workplace course. For students requiring this please see our one day Emergency First Aid at Work or 3 day First Aid at Work courses instead.
Timings
Our Basic Life Support course is 4 hours, excluding breaks, over half a day.
Courses usually assemble ready to begin at 9am and finish each day by 1.30pm with breaks throughout the day. Students must attend the whole course to be able to receive their certificate.
Certificates
When you successfully complete a course you will be sent a secure PDF certificate to print and proudly display in your workplace.
We can also provide full colour, hard copy certificates with industry-leading security features or credit card style plastic certificates on request. Additional charges apply, please contact us for more details.
This certificate is valid for 1 year. After this you must attend the full course again to requalify.
